FROM TAPE TO NATIVE DSD256

MY REEL CLUB

At My Reel Club we are dedicated to present our artist’s vision in its purest form, at the best quality possible. With the implementation of DSD256 recording system we are able to capture analogue signals with extreme accuracy in a digital domain.
But what is DSD technology?
DSD (Direct Stream Digital) was originally developed by Sony in 1995 to archive its analog master tapes in a cost-effective way. The analog-to-digital converters implementing the new delta-sigma modulator at the time made the DSD format possible. In the process, a 1-bit data stream is is first generated from the analog signal via pulse density modulation (PDM).
For a PDM signal, the amplitude at a given sampling rate is not encoded in discrete values, but rather the relative density of the pulses (1 and 0) corresponds to the amplitude of the analog signal, which tells you that the current sample of the analog waveform has a larger or lower amplitude compared to the previous one. In the DSD256, the sampling frequency exceeds 11.2896MHz, it samples 11.2896 million times per second, which is several hundred times the CD quality.
However, the DSD format is limited due to 1-bit encoding, and with current technology, it is not possible to perform post-processing without first converting it to PCM and then back to DSD again. For this reason, our intention is to record each performance in the best possible way, so that the recording does not have to be changed during post-production. This way we can offer you the purest form of audio as it was recorded.
In genres like classical or jazz, where the recording environment, the acoustics of the space, and the faithful capture of each player’s abilities and styles are key to creating an overall impact, DSD is really showing its benefits. It accurately captures even the smallest details of music, providing a true and natural listening experience.
